OH HAPPY DAY TAG by Carol

Hello crafty friends, Carol here today to share another tutorial with you all.

Today I'd like to show you how I made the background for this tag.

Using some adhesive canvas paper I applied translucent texture paste through the Bold Florals stencil and left it to dry.

I cut down the canvas so it would fit onto my tag, although I didn't attach it at this point.

First I wanted to add my colour...using Distress Sprays in Tattered Rose, Abandoned Coral and Picked Raspberry. I sprayed the canvas with water first then added a squirt of each of the colours, sprayed more water and dabbed off the excess with kitchen towel. I kept adding colour until I was happy.  The canvas looks like brocade fabric now, much nicer than the photos show!

Once everything was dry I stuck the canvas to my tag and trimmed off the excess then I inked around the edges with Potting Soil archival ink (or it may have been gathered twigs DI).
Now the tag is ready to decorate.

I made a flower with my flower loom, twine and a wooden button and added some lace to the back of it. Two banners were cut from kraft card and the excess canvas and my sentiment from Bloom Sketches was stamped with archival ink.  and everything was layered and attached. Seam binding was added et voila....it still looked a bit bare...so...
I used archival inks and some stamps from the Mini Mixed Media Backgrounds and Mixed Media Grunge sets and did some over stamping.

In retrospect I should have done the stamping on the blank canvas before I did my stencilling so it blended into the background more....but that's what crafting is about - learning as you go!

I hope you've enjoyed my tutorial today and I'll see you again next month.
