PRINTING USING A SMOOTH SURFACE tutorial by Kim

Hi!

kim here today.

I wanted to share a simple way to do monoprints with just your craft mat and stencils.

For the stencils I used the new large sized ARTplorations ones, they are big and perfect for art journals.

I have lots of photos, hope you are inspired to play with your stencils and basic acrylic paints.

Here we go!

This page is the final result, in case you do not want to see all the steps.

Step 1 gather several sheets of paper you want to play with. I used Canson Mixed Media, it has some wonderful texture. The sheet is 9 inches by 12 inches.

Step 2 I wiped clean my non-stick craft mat and applied some acrylic paint.

Steps 3 & 4 I smoothed out the paint with the brayer. The sheet on the right is the first pull off that blue layer. It picked up lots of fun texture.

Steps 5 & 6  On the left I added some purple acrylic paint and smoothed it out. On the right I put down the large Flutters & Splatters stencil. I placed the blue sheet of paper you see above, on top and rolled the brayer on it.

Step 7 & 8  The sheet on the left is the result, purple butterflies on blue. The right hand side is the paint loaded stencil on top of a clean sheet of paper. I rolled the brayer over this sheet.

Step 9 This is the print I made from the stencil loaded with paint. I really loved the texture that was created. So, I decided to keep playing with this one. The other sheet is in my stash, to be used sometime:)

Step 10  Add details with your favorite stencils. Here I used the large ARTplorations Feathers & Arrows.

Step 11 Showing the feathers in light blue.

Steps 12 to finish Adding stencils and some stamping.
Large ARTplorations Fearless.

Final page using the STAMPlorations stamps: Artsy Border MakerBold Sentiments CREATE and Blossom like a Butterfly.

Have a great day and I hope you have time to play and enter our mixed media challenge!

  2. Beautiful work and thank you Kim for showing us how you did that. I assumed you had used a large Gelli plate, but you didn't and I have an idea what I hope to be creating with weekend Karen x
