LIFE AND BEAUTY DOOR HANGER tutorial by Irit

Hello my dear crafty friends, it's Irit here....welcome to my new Mixed Media tutorial made for ARTplorations.
This time I made a up cycled  foam door hanger, the kind you buy for just a few cents in any  craft shop.

Step by step tutorial:
1. The foam door hanger was already painted when I decided to up cycle it in Mixed Media style, so I don't have any painting photos, but it was painted with acrylics only with a bit of copper actylic over the basic paint. So I use ARTplorations Big Bloom Factory  large  stencil and DecoArt Modeling paste and cover the whole piece with a pretty thick paste layer. And as usual- let it be totally dry!

2. The dry paste was painted with two fluid acrylic paints (yes, blue and yellow make green shadows as I wanted). Then the wet paste was heat embossed with clear embossing powder.

On this close up photo you can see the great texture of  texture paste, acrylics and heat embossing. All surface was painted with gold acrylic paint and you can see the final result on the finished project photos.

3. For the next step I used STAMPlorations Vignette: Eclectic Florals stamps with Gold pigmented Clearsnap ink and heat embossed them with Gold embossing powder.
You sure can use clear embossing ink and gold powder, but with this double gold combo the colors are rich and no spot  left uncovered.

4.The flowers were hand cut and then misted over with light pink mist (Tattered Angels).
I added the same acrylic paint that was used  for the stencil as my flower centers and added it to the edges too.
A couple of butterflies were made in the very same way (stamped, heat embossed, hand cut) using STAMPlorations Trendy Butterflies set.All stamped pieces were glued over the door hanger as shown.

5. Puffy stickers words were glued over the bottom part of the hanger and painted with gold and blue acrylics.

And one last view of the finished Mixed Media project! Don't you think the STAMPlorations/ARTplorations combination is just GORGEOUS?

  1. What fabulous colours and texture. Love all the elements and all the mediums you've used. Yes I do love how all the stamps and stencils combine so very well together. Thank you for the inspiration x
